What choices do I have when my course ends?
This largely depends on the type of course you intend doing. At the end of our courses most students can choose between getting a job or moving on to further education, or a combination of both.
Further information
The majority of National Learning Network programmes are open entry, which means that you can start at any time of the year.
We will be happy to advise you of the details of your course when you meet with us.
All of our courses are free to students. They are funded by the Education and Training Boards or the HSE.
Do I keep my benefits?
Yes. You will keep the financial benefits you currently have. You should contact the secretary at your local centre if you have any queries regarding benefits.
NLN will offer you supports that will not only help with your training but can assist you in relevant aspects of your life. You will hold onto your current financial benefits and in addition you may obtain a training allowance from SOLAS or the HSE.
Skills for Education and Employment
This training programme is aimed at people who want to progress to further education or enter (re-enter) the workforce and study in a supportive environment.
It allows students the opportunity to gain QQI Level 4 qualifications and a wide range of skills which are required to secure and maintain employment. This is done in an encouraging learning environment that promotes wellness.
Using a combination of accredited and non-accredited modules, as well as work placements, we offer a person centred approach that will support you in achieving your goals.
Training is delivered through a combination of centre-based, community-based and work-based learning. Students are required to attend the centre three days a week to complete training in the programme modules. The remainder of the week is spent completing assigned work including activities relating to community engagement and work placements.
On completion of the programme, students can gain a QQI level 4 major award in either Employment Skills or Retail Skills. This provides a pathway to further education at QQI level 5 or employment in a variety of areas.
Certification: QQI Level 4 Employment Skills (4M0857), QQI Level 4 Retail Skills (4M1998).
