The overall aim of the programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to engage in a range of art, craft and design practices and to progress to further and or higher education and training.

Entry Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Learners must have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate/LCAP/LCVP Examination or QQI Level 4. An aptitude and interest in Art is desirable. Special consideration will be given to mature students (Over 23) or others who may not have obtained a Leaving Certificate. Entry procedure is by application and possible interview.

Applicants whose first language is not English, require a minimum English language and literacy competency of B2 in reading, writing, listening and speaking on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) and may be required to complete an English language test.

Employability Statement
The successful completion of the QQI Major Level 5 Award in Art, Craft and Design will enable applicants to engage in a range of art, craft and design practices within a group studio environment under direction from studio personnel.

PLC Maintenance Grant
All applications for grants must be made online to SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland). Applications for the upcoming academic year will open when the 2021 Grants Scheme is announced by the Department of Education and Skills.
