Laboratory Assistant
This programme is designed to give learners the knowledge and practical skills necessary to prepare them for both employment and further studies in a science-related field. The programme will also allow learners the opportunity to complete work experience in a laboratory environment where they can experience the job of a laboratory assistant.

Duration
A one-year full-time course.
Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Graduates of this programme should be able to access laboratory assistant jobs in both science and pharmaceutical sectors e.g. Eurofins in Dungarvan. This programme is also ideal for learners who are considering further studies in such areas as Biological and Chemical Science, Food Science, Genetics or a Laboratory Apprenticeship programme.
Erasmus
Every year a number of learners have the opportunity to travel to another European country for three weeks of fully funded work experience. The students attend work in their vocational area.
