The Data Centre Operations level-6 SPA Course is aimed at those seeking to work in the data centre engineering operations sector. Focused on the fundamental skills needed to work in a data centre, this programme has been designed in consultation with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Live online lectures (recorded), Mon 7pm-10pm, Wed 6pm-10pm.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement to this programme is a Higher Certificate (NFQ Level 6) in electrical, electronic, mechanical (or cognate) disciplines.

Applicants with FETAC Level 6 Award (Advanced Craft Certificate) in a craft such as Electrical, Electrical Instrumentation or Fitting and with 3 years post-qualification experience in an industrial environment may also be considered eligible for entry to this programme.

As students will be required to attend on-site classes three days per semester, this course is open only to qualified applicants who are resident in Ireland

All applicants will be required to take CDCO H1011 Introduction to Data Centre Operation. In addition, depending on their previous qualification, entrants are required to undertake at least 2 of the three bridging modules: CDCO H1012 Science for Data Centres; CDCO H1013 Electrical Fundamentals; CDCO H1014 Functions and Calculus.

Careers / Further progression

Designed in conjunction with and supported by AWS, this programme prepares successful participants for a career as an entry-level Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician. Participants will have an opportunity to gain real hands-on experience in the work placement elements of the programme.

On successful completion students may advance to TU074 Bachelor of Science in Data Centre Operations and Management

Data centres are the fundamental engines on which modern ICT runs. They give major ICT players the capability to deliver services world-wide 24x7. For a range of reasons including climate, available skills and available power, Ireland has become a major hub for data centres, with many major multinationals having a significant data centre presence in Ireland.

Data Centre Engineering Operations Technicians work to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Data Centre organizations, ensuring that the data centre operates at 100% availability, while maintaining first-class customer service.

Amazon Web Services Sponsorships

As part of their support for this programme, AWS are making available up to 20 scholarships to allow successful participants to complete the programme free of fees (subject to terms and conditions).

Important Course Information

Participants on the programme will have the opportunity to apply for 14-week paid placements in an AWS Data Centre in the Dublin area. Successful completion of the programme will place candidates in a strong position to compete for Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician roles in AWS Data Centres in Ireland.
