The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required to critically engage with the theory and practice of conflict management incommunity settings

Entry Criteria
Entry criteria / prerequisites Level 5 Certificate / Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) or relevant life experience detailed in a current Curriculum Vitae. Please provide details and attach a copy of either a current CV or Certificate. Learners must be a resident of Ireland / based in Ireland.
English
As this NFQ level 6 qualification is delivered through English it is necessary learners will have sufficient written English skills to complete this course. Forus Training recommends a minimum English language competency of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) for successful completion of this programme. If you are not sure what level of English competency you have, please contact hello@forustraining.ie and a Course Advisor will arrange for you to take an assessment.

Careers / Further progression
What are my progression routes?
This course leads to a level 6 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may use their credits towards completing a higher level of study in the area of Health and Social Care.
Students who successfully complete this Major Award can also use the Certificate as the basis for entry into selected courses in Third Level Colleges and Universities.

Our Conflict Management course is designed for people currently working in the community and voluntary sector. It will also be useful to those in a relevant HR department or anybody engaged in mediation. In the course, learners can expect to explore the nature of conflict; why not all conflict is bad, and how to overcome potential barriers that conflict can lend itself to; they will also investigate varying conflict management styles, such as: Accommodating, avoiding, compromising, collaborating, and competing.
Through this programme you will discover how to:
Explain the role, function, and forms of expression of conflict in group and organisational life
Discuss the theoretical and practice dimensions of conflict management and conflict resolution in particular similarities and differences between them
Demonstrate detailed knowledge of methods and strategies for managing conflict problems including solving, negotiation, passive, smoothing approach, adversarial approach, compromising, withdrawal and avoidance
Discuss the role, function and styles of mediation and negotiation in managing conflict
Utilise a range of methods to intervene in conflict situation in group and organisational life
Demonstrate skills of conflict management in organisational life
Present an analytical framework for understanding and managing conflict in group or organisational contexts
Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses associated with their personal style of conflict management in group or organisational contexts
Demonstrate good practice in managing conflict ingroup or organisational contexts

Assignment
An assignment is an exercise carried out in response to a detailed, easy to follow, brief with specific guidelines given to you by your tutor. It is a form of continuous assessment.
Project
A project is a individual to a brief with guidelines, that will be given to you on the first session of your course. They are carried out over a period of time. Projects involve: research – requiring individual investigation of a topic related to your course.
Learner Record
A learner record is a self-reported record by you, in which you are required to describe specific learning experiences, activities, responses, skills acquired. You will compile a personal logbook/journal/diary/daily diary/ record.
