FinTech - Financial Technology Skills
This course aims to prepare learners for employment in the FinTech sector. This foundation course will introduce learners to the area of financial technology so that they will be motivated to pursue job opportunities and further training in the sector. The learner will develop an understanding of the international financial services market and develop competence in key finance concepts, digital and interpersonal skills.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 5 passes at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent.
OR
Leaving Certificate Vocational, Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 qualifications.
The Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for mature students and appropriate experience can be
considered as being equivalent to the Leaving Certificate.

Step 2: Interview and Course Offer
You will be contacted by phone by a College staff member to discuss your application and answer any questions you may have about the course.
Places are offered on a first come, first served basis and are subject to places being available and any specific course requirements being met.

To pay your non-refundable €30 deposit online, please click on the login button below. This will take you to the login page of the college online payments system. Your login details are on the email we sent you.

For all applicants: a suitable passport-style photograph, recently taken.
For all applicants: passport or ID Card (with photo) to confirm your identity
For school leavers: a copy of your Leaving Certificate Results when you receive them
For non-Leaving Certificate applicants: a Statement of Results from your most recent academic course
For Non-EU applicants: please upload your GNIB card (stamp 4) or Labour Market Permission letter

Step 6: Induction and Commencement of Course
At Ballsbridge College we are committed to you having a successful transition to college and your induction, which takes place in early to mid September, is the first important step.
At your induction you will meet your Course Tutor, other college staff and your fellow students. You will receive lots of useful information about your course and the college.

Costs are kept to the minimum. For 2023/2024 the standard charge is €240.
The €240 charge covers a number of costs including certification and exam entry.
Grants are available to eligible students. Eligibility depends on individual financial circumstances and a grant must be applied for, through Student Universal Service Ireland (SUSI), see www.susi.ie.
The FinTech sector is a rapidly growing sector of the international financial services market. Demand for FinTech services and the opportunity for innovative Irish FinTechs at home and abroad has never been so strong. Investment in the sector in Ireland and the UK accounted for 42% of total investment in Europe in 2014 (Accenture (2015, March 26), Growth in Fintech Investment Fastest in European Market).
Fintech is described in its broadest terms as innovation in financial services enabled by technology, through the development of new products and services from both start- ups and established financial institutions” (Accenture 2015, A Skills Needs Analysis of the international Financial Services Sector in Ireland, 2015).
The Government’s strategy for the Irish Financial Services Centre (IFSC) aims to create 10,000 additional jobs over the next five years (Hancock, C. (2015, February 2). 10,000 IFSC jobs targeted in major new strategy. The Irish Times.).
However, a skills shortage in the FinTech sector has been identified as a barrier to growth, in particular, technology skills such as data management and analytics and mobile technology. Developing a skills-set which combines both the business and technical knowledge of the international financial services market is crucial for anyone wishing to work in the FinTech sector.
