This programme module aims to facilitate the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work effectively and offer support to a physiotherapist in a clinical environment. One of two modules needed to gain employement in the HSE as a Physiotherapy Assistant.
Learning Outcomes:
Learners will be able to:
1. Summarise the roles and responsibilities of a physiotherapy assistant and of a chartered physiotherapist
2. Explain the role of important anatomical systems
3. Apply knowledge gained to recognise a range of common medical conditions
4. Practice the skills required to support the client in all aspects of the physiotherapy intervention
5. Identify the skills required to support therapeutic handling in a range of physiotherapy interventions
6. Practice therapeutic handling in a range of physiotherapy interventions
7. Reflect on relationships with client relatives and multidisciplinary team members and interpersonal issues that arise in physiotherapy interventions
8. Reflect on personal effectiveness as a physiotherapy assistant to include own strengths and weaknesses
9. Demonstrate the ability to plan and provide enhanced quality care and support.
