Entry Requirements

Education: Leaving Certificate or equivalent, fluency in the English language

Aptitude: Capable of working on own initiative. Capable of working outside a classroom environment. Ability to use a computer device, including the ability to access email and the internet

Previous Experience: To actively participate in course activities learners must have access to a computer with broadband Internet access. Experience in using web-based learning systems is an advantage.

The aim of the Ballina Digital Skills Centre training programme is to provide a self-paced, flexible training course for learners to acquire computer skills. The programme caters for beginners to intermediate to advanced learners. A training needs analysis will be completed for each learner to determine a suitable computer training programme level i.e., basic, intermediate, or advanced. The programme sets out to provide a flexible and progressive path for each learner to acquire computer skills. We also provide other free, part-time digital training courses for eligible applicants and welcome enquires to find a suitable course that meets your digital learning needs.

Prospective learners should be aware that a good deal of independent study is required to reach certification standards.

IC3 Digital Literacy?GS 6 is a program designed to ensure that learners are prepared to succeed in a technology-based world. IC3 GS 6 delivers solutions for learning how to succeed in any environment that requires the use of computers, devices, or the Internet.

IC3 GS 6 is the ideal solution for any learner or jobseeker looking to improve or validate their digital skills.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

IC3 GS6 has 3 exams which are organized according to the learner’s level of knowledge needed to earn the certificate:

•IC3 GS6 Level 1 exam is recommended for beginner learners who are
new to digital literacy and citizenship concepts.

•IC3 GS6 Level 2 exam is a good choice for intermediate learners who have had hands-on experience working with technology as it requires candidates to complete specific tasks.

•IC3 GS6 Level 3 exam is recommended for advanced learners who are comfortable with and understand advanced digital literacy topics and skills.

When a learner successfully passes all three Global Standard 6 certification exams, they are awarded the?IC3 Digital Literacy Master Certification and a Master Badge.

Learners who earn the IC3 Digital Literacy Master Certification will have a solid foundation and advanced understanding of digital literacy knowledge and skills and are able to complete all digital literacy tasks for both themselves, and with others.

The programme is composed of three modules with an exam at the end, each awarding its own certificate.

• Digital Literacy Level 1
• Digital Literacy Level 2
• Digital Literacy Level 3

Seven digital literacy domains will be covered at a basic, intermediate, and advanced level:
