Drones for Construction
The aim of the module is to provide learners with the relevant knowledge and skills in the operations of on-site procedures in this particular sector, and aircraft technical and maintenance specifications. Learners will build their knowledge of flight limitations and emergency procedures and develop skills to ensure safe and efficient use of Drone captured data with training in drone flight operations.
Duration
24 Weeks
Tues 7pm to 9pm (fortnightly) plus 2 Workshops in Semester 1 and 4 on-site flying days in Semester 2.
Entry Requirements
A level 6 qualification or equivalent is required.
OR
Applicants who do not meet these requirements but who are aged 23 and over will be considered for entry on the basis of an assessment and, if appropriate, also an interview.
Equivalence can be demonstrated by an appropriate qualification and significant relevant experience in the construction industry.
Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)/Special Case Registrations: Prospective participants who do not meet the entry requirements for the programme detailed above, but who may qualify for admission by meeting certain other equivalent criteria, including workplace experience, should submit their application online, upload their most relevant qualifications and then email flexible.midwest@tus.ie to request RPL consideration
English Language; Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postrgraduate course, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English profiency meets these requirements.

Legal and safety obligations
Pre-flight planning
Risk assessments and on-site procedures
Semester 2: 12 Weeks
Drone Skills Acquisition (5 credits)
Drone Pilot Registration with IAA Accreditation
Simulated pilot training skills
Surveys, data collection, and storage
Flight training for Competency Test
Assessment will be through a range of continuous assessments, which will involve:
Case studies,
Online Quizzes
Project reports
Final project.

Qualification:
Certificate in Drones for Construction (Special Purpose Award, L7, 10 ECTS)
All students will require a laptop. TUS will provide access to all relevant software for upload. Access to a drone is also required.
