Health and Safety Authority (HSA) regulations require that all manual handling instructors are certified. The purpose of this course is to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies to deliver manual handling training. Learners will examine the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling, risk assessment and the key training tools and skills required to effectively deliver manual handling courses.

The course focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling, risk assessment and the key training tools and skills required to effectively deliver manual handling courses.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, learners will:

Gain an understanding of the main components of current Health & Safety Legislation
Learn about the anatomy of the spine and effective back care
Identify the main risk factors for back injuries
Gain an understanding of the techniques for Manual Handling Risk Assessment
Gain an understanding of Ergonomic Principles
Understand manual handling principles and techniques
Develop the qualities necessary for effective manual handling instruction
Acquire effective preparation techniques for manual handling instruction
Develop skills for the competent delivery and evaluation of manual handling training
Develop improved presentation and communication skills
Practice course preparation and delivery skills and techniques
Demonstrate understanding of the process of preparing and delivering a manual handling course

PREREQUISITES
Manual Handling Instruction course is delivered and assessed in English. Competence in written and spoken English is essential. If you are unsure about your level of language proficiency, we can provide an English language assessment for your convenience.

ASSESSMENTS
As part of this course, learners must complete and pass all the following course assessments:

Assignment: 20%
Examination (theory based): 20%
