Language Courses
We are new running evening courses in Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese and Chinese (Mandarin) for adults who would like to learn a new language, or improve their conversational skills for travel, holidays and business. Our French and Spanish courses focus on conversational language, and cover some cultural aspects of the countries in which those languages are spoken. Basic grammar will be covered but the focus is on building vocabulary and confidence in conversation. Reading and writing, including the special characters used, will be covered in the Chinese, Japanese and Korean courses but here too speaking and listening will be the main focus. Our tutors are native speakers where possible.

French (Beginners):
This French for Beginners course is based on a communicative approach and will provide learners with the tools and confidence to have basic conversations with French speakers. A wide range of resources, oral and written will be used, including everyday French documents such as restaurant menus, songs, movie extracts and short texts. Learners will take part in activities, conversations and role plays and will have the opportunity to do projects on themes that particularly interest them. All activities are aimed at developing French communication skills.

Areas covered include greeting someone, talking about yourself and relatives, ordering a meal, asking for items and prices, asking for directions, and discussing your hobbies and tastes in life. By the end of this course, you will be able to understand basic questions in French; have short conversations with a French speaker, using appropriate greetings, write short texts (such as presentations or emails), and utilise and improved knowledge of French culture (ways of life in France, food, cinema, etc.). The tutor uses learner-centred approaches, and will always be attentive to your needs and expectations.

French (Improvers):
This improvers' course is designed for students who already have a basic grasp of French and who want to improve their communication skills and delve deeper into the use of the language. You will study using videos and articles from the French media, along with a range of other resources, and gain a better understanding of French language and culture. You will also do activities and projects where you will be able to interact and express yourself (employing the structures learned during the course) and talk about themes that interest you.

By the end of the course you will be able to talk confidently about events, express your opinions and tastes, plan projects, give advice and negotiate. The tutor will always be attentive to your needs and expectations.

Tutor: a native speaker
