Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements:
• Successful completion of a programme leading to a level 5 QQI minor or major Childcare Certificate / Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification in a related field and/or relevant life or work experience. Please contact the College for requirements surrounding Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for entry.
• Learners must be currently either working or have access to work experience (can be voluntary) in an Early Childhood Care and Education setting for a minimum of 20 hours, during the course, as assignments will require learners to draw upon practical experience to complete activities.
• Ability to demonstrate the levels of knowledge, skill and competence associated with NFQ level 6.
• Learners must hold a valid PPS Number.
• Be able to read, draft, prepare, understand and process information across a broad range of topics.
• Learners must be fluent in English with excellent written English skills to complete this course. Learners for whom English is not their first language will be required to provide evidence of meeting a minimum English language and literacy competency of B2 in writing, reading, listening, and speaking on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
• Be self-motivated and have the capacity to share the responsibility for their own learning.
• Be able to complete the self-directed hours of learning in the form of practice time, preparation, study time and reflection time.
• Available to attend scheduled online webinars and participate in all programme-related activities.
• Learners must be competent and confident in an online learning environment and have access to a laptop/PC/suitable mobile device with a functioning camera and audio and sufficient internet speed and strength.

Careers / Further progression

This Early Childhood Curriculum QQI Level 6 course leads to a level 6 Minor award on the National Framework of Qualifications. On successful completion of this course students may use this level 6 credit (credit value - 15) towards a QQI Major Award Level 6 Early Childhood Care and Education (6M2007).

The Purpose
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence relevant to the development and implementation of a broad based curriculum in an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) setting.

Early Childhood Curriculum Course Award
This module is one of the mandatory modules required for obtaining the Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education. This module is a statement of the standards to be achieved to gain a minor award in Early Childhood Curriculum at Level 6 (QQI component certificate 6N1944) with Credit Value 15.

Who Will Benefit From An Early Childhood Curriculum QQI Course?
This course is ideal for childcare facility owners, managers, supervisors and individuals already involved in or new to childcare and who wish to gain a professional, nationally recognised and accredited qualification in childcare.

Early Childhood Curriculum Course Assessment
Throughout the course material you will find self-assessments and exercises to complete. These should not be returned to the College. They are a form of self-examination and reflection and should be used as a study aid.

As soon as you have completed the course you will be required to submit a mandatory project to your Kilroy's College tutor for assessment and grading. The project carries 40% of the final grade. In addition you will be required to prepare and participate in a skills demonstration. This skills demonstration carries 60% of the final grade. The skills demonstration is used to access a broad range of practical based learning outcomes including practical skills and knowledge. It will require you to complete a task or series of tasks that demonstrate a range of skills within an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) setting.

All work submitted must be your own and the course must be completed within 12 weeks of receiving your study units. Work submitted will be marked by your tutor, checked by an internal verifier and also by an independent QQI external authenticator.

On successful completion of this course you will receive a QQI Level 6 Component Certificate in Early Childhood Curriculum (6N1944) from QQI.
