This 1 year QQI/City & Guilds course is suitable for individuals who wish to up-skill/develop their understanding of the principles and techniques of dressmaking. Emphasis on the course is in making with a strong focus on fitting, altering, finishing, pressing and pattern drafting and grading of garments.

Entry Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

These award will enable holders of achieve in depth knowledge in aspects of costume for theatre and film Learners will develop proficient technical skills to enable them to gain employment in theatre production.

Participants may progress to the Advanced Fashion, Creative Textiles Level 6 or Advanced Certificate in Art at LCFE.

Award holders may continue further studies through the Links schemes.

Fees: There are no tuition fees payable to the College by EU nationals.

Non-EU Nationals who do not meet the exemption requirements are liable for a full tuition fee of €3,653 as per instruction of the DFHERIS. The LCFE College Registration Fee, materials Fee and Exam Fees are also payable. The tuition fee is non-refundable.

** Some programmes charge additional materials fees where the cost of the materials used for that course are relatively high.

*Some programmes may have additional examination fees if they are being accredited by bodies other than QQI (eg City and Guilds, CIBTAC, IPU etc). The QQI Exam Fee for Level 5 programmes is €50 and €80 for a Level 6.

Exemptions
The QQI Exam fee may be exempted when relevant documentation is presented at registration.

Means-tested Maintenance Grants are available to qualifying learners. These grants are administered by Learner Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) through www.studentfinance.ie. All applications must be made on-line. The College has a Grants Officer, who will advise applicants, as necessary.

The course will also introduce elements of design through fabric manipulation nd dyeing to help with characterisation of the garment and with introduction of fashion/design history. This course is practical workshop based and participants will learn by doing. The course will provide skills and confidence to work in dressmaking.

Our Fashion Department provides learners with a comprehensive knowledge of the fashion trade, with a strong focus on practical skills using traditional and contemporary techniques.
